Features set as per license edition

This post is bit of common sense. But often ignored. I have several times went to VMware website to check what all features are available in specific Edition when actually information available right near you. Below is simple way to find out. Select ESXi host, on right hand side select configuration tab –> in software panel select “Licensed Features”. I have marked features which are always assumed as same for all edition which is actually never true.

e.g. As per above you’re entitled to use vSphere Data Recovery (vDR). All you’ve to do download the software and start using it. Please note vDR is only license per instance of vCenter

32 vCPU only in enterprise plus

Recently I was involved in design of vSphere4.x and I assumed 8 vCPU is available across all version. But later on during implementation phase we realized it is only available in enterprise plus. We had no choice but to upgrade to enterprise plus licenses. To avoid such mistakes in future I have blogged for myself i.e. 32 vCPU are available only in Enterprise Plus.
